Medical Illustration and Ophthalmic Photography Department
A full time photographer and a fully equipped photographic laboratory constitute an important resource in documenting our clinical practice and research. LVPEI has facilities for both conventional and digital photography. The department aids clinical and basic researchers to prepare slides and photographic prints for use in presentations and publications. They are also used for case documentation.

Central Audio Visual Unit (CAVU)
The Central Audio Visual Unit (CAVU) at the L V Prasad Eye Institute is equipped with a DVCam post production facility to produce medical training tapes for ophthalmologists, optometrists and other eye care professionals. CAVU also makes patient information videos on eye care, eye health, and rehabilitation of the blind and visually impaired.

In addition, CAVU relays patient information video films and satellite television programs to the patient waiting areas every day, for the benefit of patients and visitors. During medical conferences, CAVU facilitates real-time transmission of video signals simultaneously from one or more operation theatres to the main auditorium in the Kallam Anji Reddy Campus or to the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) located several kilometers away. CAVU's surgical training and patient information videos are available for sale in DVD format. Orders should be accompanied by a demand draft favouring the Hyderabad Eye Institute, payable at Hyderabad. Please note that orders for videos take a minimum of one week to process.

Biomedical Department
LVPEI's ophthalmic Biomedical Department has a well-trained team of engineers and technicians who work to ensure the smooth functioning of equipment required for uninterrupted patient care services. It offers the following services:

  • Preventive maintenance of equipment on a regular basis to ensure trouble-free functioning;
  • Calibration of equipment at regular intervals to ensure accuracy
  • Trouble-shooting: Attending breakdown calls from all over the Institute and solving the problems promptly;
  • Organizing and checking audio-visual equipment and other arrangements for seminars and meetings; and
  • Development of innovative products to provide better patient care services. For instance, our Biomedical Department has developed a remote electronic foot-switch control for operating microscopes, and an easy to use front panel for phacoemulsification machines.

Information Systems Department
The Information Systems Department (ISD) of L V Prasad Eye Institute is the hub for connecting all our computer systems and monitoring the entire network. Our computing infrastructure includes the latest hardware and software, with access to a dedicated 256 Kbps data-link for Internet connections and a 100 Mbps network bandwidth for internal connections.

Software Development
Our software developers use Delphi at the front-end and Sybase database at the back-end; they are currently developing web-based applications using ASP. The Information Services Department also supports the development work of our collaborative projects, like the Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit (CCLRU), Australia. As part of our collaborative effort, our programmers take turns to go for three-month training periods to CCLRU. The group works in tandem with the various departments to build various applications and software programs in-house.

Graphic Design
All graphics design work is done in-house. This includes making power-point slide presentations and poster presentations, creating artwork for brochures and leaflets, and the designing and layout of our annual and quarterly reports.
