Trained in medical and surgical management of vitreo retinal diseases, Dr Das has received 16 research grants and has led or is currently leading a number of research programs in diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. His research interest includes infective endophthalmitis. He has published 156 papers, 30 book chapters and has authored or edited 7 books.
He has given more than 300 lectures in the country and abroad. He has delivered 9 named lectures, received 19 awards from the state and national societies in India, from the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO, 2006 and 2013) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO, 2003). He was conferred Doctorate of Science (Honaris Causa) by the Ravenshaw University in the year 2011.The Government of India has conferred him with the Padma Shri for Medicine in the year 2013.
