Tumors
Overview
Eye tumors are relatively rare, and need sophisticated and specialized diagnostic and treatment facilities. The Ocular Oncology Service at the L V Prasad Eye Institute is one of the few departments in the World that deal exclusively with eye tumors and provide integrated comprehensive management for the entire range of tumors of the eye and adnexa.
The Ocular Oncology Service at the L V Prasad Eye Institute is an integrated multi-specialty tertiary care referral centre for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with eye tumors and those who are eye tumor suspects. Because of the rarity of eye tumors, patients generally have to travel long distances to seek expert opinion and treatment. The Ocular Oncology Service caters to patients that come from all parts of India and the region without need for a prior appointment and also provides expedited management as the condition demands. The wide spectrum of eye tumors managed here includes tumors of the eyelid and adnexa, ocular surface, intraocular structures, and orbit.
As one of the first and the largest centres for the treatment of eye tumors, the Ocular Oncology Service has an unparalleled opportunity to carry out clinical research projects in conjunction with the Basic Sciences Research Departments. Physicians on the service combine efforts with scientists in the laboratory to achieve a better understanding of the eye tumor, its diagnosis and treatment. The staff of the Ocular Oncology Service is formed by a cohesive team of physicians and scientists who are well oriented to this relatively nascent subspecialty.
